At VivaMQ, we're revolutionising oral examinations in higher education by harnessing the power of generative AI. Our mission is to create fair, consistent, and equitable assessment experiences for both students and educators.
We aim to address the perceived challenges to academic integrity posed by generative AI while supporting oral exams regardless of whether students use AI tools or not.
VivaMQ originated as a Software Engineering thesis project by Luke Glover. The initial prototype was designed to analyse short software engineering essays and generate viva questions based on three key criteria: Familiarity, Discussion Proficiency, and Critical Expansion.
Today, VivaMQ has evolved into a comprehensive web application, suitable for use in various academic units by both educators and students. Our tool is particularly targeted at units like COMP4092 and other Thesis A units in the Engineering Honours program, as well as COMP2050 and the MQ Writing Center.
VivaMQ is developed by three independent teams, each split into three sub-teams. We work closely with users from the thesis program, COMP2050, and the Writing Center in an Agile-like fashion to ensure our tool meets the needs of all stakeholders.
VivaMQ is brought to life by a dedicated team of professionals across various disciplines:
